Supporting Gratitude Day at Mercy Medical Center

LCO, September 2021

Over summer, the highly contagious COVID-19 Delta variant triggered a surge in patient hospitalizations. Staff at the Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, Oregon worked extra hours for weeks on end. When the peak subsided in September, Mercy Medical Center organized a Gratitude Day to express their appreciation to the staff. They planned a special meal to feed about 800 people at this event. Lighthouse Center Oregon (LCO) offered to support this event and Mercy Medical Center requested LCO to make bread for this special meal.

LCO volunteers mixed 240 pounds of dough and shaped that dough into 80 loaves of bread. After the bread came out of the oven, the loaves were cooled, then sliced and bagged. Then the loaves were packed neatly into boxes.

To accompany the bread delivery, LCO volunteers prepared a thank-you poster and a vase of flowers freshly picked from the gardens at LCO. During the event at Mercy Medical Center, the poster and flowers were displayed along with the bread for all to see. The whole process went smoothly and the hospital staff were very grateful and happy.

On behalf of Mercy Foundation and Mercy Medical Center, I would like to thank you for the generous in-kind donation of bread valued at $600 and the beautiful flowers you delivered.

Your delicious bread was served with clam chowder on a Gratitude Day to recognize the staff for continuous teamwork and efforts as they continued to deliver exceptional patient care to our community during the recent COVID surge in Douglas County.

We cannot thank you enough for your support of Mercy Foundation and Mercy Medical Center.

Best regards
