Gift Bags for Local Hospital Staff

For a second consecutive year, volunteers from Lighthouse Center® Oregon (LCO) assembled and delivered gift bags to the busy staff at Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital in Vancouver, Washington. This project is undertaken in winter each year, as hospital staff are kept busy due to the influx of patients the season brings. Our volunteers have found this charity project to be a great opportunity to support hospital workers as they provide expert medical care to the local community.

The assembly of the gift bags took place on a chilly Saturday morning in February 2025. Volunteers gathered at a free community use room in a local restaurant and assembled 200 gift bags containing a variety of teas, healthy chips and crackers, fruit pouches, trail mix granola bars, and chocolate bars.

The gift bags were later delivered to Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital and were distributed to staff working hard to meet the increasing seasonal health needs of the community. The hospital expressed delight and appreciation for the morale-boosting gift bags.

LCO volunteers look forward to next year’s event, if another event is not planned even sooner!

Toiletry Kits Provided to Local Shower Program

June was a particularly hot month in the USA’s Pacific Northwest. As summer arrived in the city of Portland, Oregon, the temperature at times soared beyond 90°F. LCO looking to serve the community during the summer heat, teamed up with the Sunnyside Shower Project, a Portland-based community program that provides showers, clothing, laundry cards, and snacks to homeless individuals and people in need.

LCO volunteers joyfully gathered in Portland to assemble 60 toiletry kits for the Sunnyside Shower Project. The kits were packaged in a reusable zipper pouch and contained various items for personal hygiene such as a comb, a toothbrush, toothpaste, disposable razors, as well as lotion, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and deodorant. As best as possible, products using natural ingredients were used for the kits.

The director of Sunnyside was delighted with the donated toiletry kits that were distributed at a site designated by the Sunnyside Shower Project. In the future, LCO hopes to distribute the toiletry kits to the people directly, as well as provide them grab-and-go snack packs. We look forward to partnering with the Sunnyside Shower Project in the near future!

The toiletry kits were very well received and greatly appreciated by our guests! Items like these go quickly and are always in demand. We’re so thankful for your generosity and for the care that clearly went into putting them together. It was such a pleasure meeting you, and we’re truly grateful for your continued support!
